Adobe has now released Character Animator CC18 official Version 1
So the new update is out and CH is now out of BETA! The new version comes with some really cool features, such as midi controls, allowing midi devices to control your characters triggers and also new parameters such as scale, position, opacity and much more! but this is just the start, they have also implemented a whole new trigger system, which makes the trigger setup a lot neater using swap sets and lets you group sets together with the ability to rename the triggers and sets. The old version could get a bit confusing with complex rigs and sometime you can be left hunting through folders to find where you have added a triggers and this looks like a way to solve this! Triggers also have a new control panel witch lets you trigger your animations on screen (handy if you have a touch screen) with a click of a button, the main benefits to this is it gives you a visual cue of what the triggers are instead of trying to remember assigned keys and also you don’t actually have to assign keys you can use the buttons with just a click so you wont run out of keys! There are a few other additions such as improved lip sync, eyebrow tilt, clipping masks and pose to pose animation. Below are the new features videos by Dave Warner where he runs through all the new features in detail, Thanks Dave!
We’ve have been playing with using an Xbox controller to control a puppet, we have found a way to set the controller as a virtual midi device and also map the keys to the controller buttons and will be making a tutorial of the set up so you can do the same, below is a video of it in action, the software used to make this work is loopmidi, Keysticks & OS Xbox360 Midi Control by Ocean Swift.
If you have any questions for the creative duo, relating both to the software used, animation or design, please do post them when live and they will do their best to answer every question 🙂
